Colour, Cakes and 239 Entries at Gordon Flower Show

There was plenty of colour in Gordon Village Hall on Saturday 29 August as Gordon Flower Show 2026 brought together growers, bakers, crafters and young artists from Gordon and the surrounding area.

This year the show attracted 239 entries, slightly more than last year, and there were some impressive exhibits among them.

Special prize winners

Alongside the trophy winners, this year's special prizes went to:

• Anne Rendall — Best in Vegetables, for her onions, and Best Begonia.
• Helen Darling — Best in Cut Flowers, for her gladiolus spike, and Best in Baking, for her chocolate cake.
• Marion Johnstone — Best in Roses, for her set of three, and Best in Floral Art, for an arrangement incorporating a wooden picture frame.

Our younger entrants

Young growers and artists are a big part of the Flower Show. The Gordon Primary School artwork had a bird theme this year, chosen by the teachers, and the children's work made a brilliant display. The junior sections are free to enter, something we hope encourages plenty of young people to have a go.

Thank you to our judges

Judging this year was carried out by B Smith (vegetables and fruit), E Coltherd (baking and handicrafts) and G & H Cargill (flowers and juniors). A big thank you to them all for giving up their time to come along.

Doors open for the afternoon

Once judging was complete the doors opened to visitors, and there was a lovely atmosphere in the hall. People spent the afternoon admiring the exhibits, checking out the trophy winners, enjoying teas and trying their luck on the tombola.

Part of village life

Gordon Flower Show has been part of village life for many years and is run by a small group of local volunteers. We're delighted that the Flower Show is now part of Gordon Common Good, helping to keep this traditional community event going and hopefully growing for years to come.

With entries up again this year, we're already looking forward to seeing what everyone brings along in 2027.
