This Year’s Highlight — The Coffee Bun Recipe
Baking Class 61 is 3 coffee buns, and every entry must use the recipe printed in the schedule — so the class is judged on the baking, not the recipe. A coffee bun is a Scottish biscuit to have with coffee; there is no coffee in the biscuit itself.
Coffee Buns — Baking Class 61
Ingredients
- 4 oz margarine
- 4 oz light brown sugar
- 9 oz self-raising flour
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp mixed spice
- 2 oz sultanas, or any preferred dried fruit
Method
Cream the margarine and sugar, then stir in all the other ingredients, reserving a little of the egg for the glaze. Roll into balls and glaze with the reserved egg and/or milk. Cook on a greased baking tin at 170°C.
Entering the Show
There are 101 classes, covering cut flowers, pot plants, floral art, vegetables, fruit, baking, preserves, handicrafts, photography, and the student, junior and school art sections. See the classes of entry for the full list and the trophies awarded in each section, and the entry arrangements for fees, staging times, judging and collecting your exhibits.
